Recap Romans 12:

  • V1 mercy and consecration (sacrifice the body)

  • V2 Consecration - transformed

  • V3-8 surrendering of pride and being fitted in the body of Christ.

  • V9-21 walking in Christ and His body

Read Romans 12.

Walking out the mercies of God. How can we do this? How can the body really function?

If we’re honest, there are times we tell ourselves that this isn’t true. We think it is something that is attained many years from now, but probably not at all. This seems like a fairy tale. Or something only for super Christians, but never for me. Is the body of Christ a pipe dream we will never attain? Do we tell ourselves that? How could one reach such a level of Christianity?

But all you will ever be is a child of God. (Galatians 4:4-7)

We have all things in Christ (Eph 1:3) and are one with him (John 14-17).

From Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret (chapter 14)

“But how to get the faith strengthened? Not by striving after faith, but by resting in the faithful one.”

“If we believe not, he abideth faithful.”

“…it is a wonderful thing to be really one with a risen and exalted Saviour, to be a member of Christ! Think what it involves. Can Christ be rich and I poor? Can your right hand be rich and your left poor? Or your head be well fed while your body starves?”

“It makes no matter where He places me, or how. That is rather for Him to consider than for me; for in

the easiest position He must give me His grace, and in the most difficult His grace is sufficient. It little matters to my servant whether I send him to buy a few cash worth of things, or the most expensive articles. In either case he looks to me for the money and brings me his purchases…No fear that His resources will prove unequal to the emergency! And His resources are mine, for He is mine, and is with me and dwells in me.”

Romans 12, go do this. Not because of you, but because of Him that is in you. Know He who is your source. Jesus Christ alone.

Romans 12 and all that we’ve covered about the body of Christ

Many times we tell ourselves that the reality of the body of Christ is unattainable or very far off.

All that we have in Christ (Eph 1:3) and we are one with Him (John 14-17).

The body of Christ functions because of His mercy and His love. Not what we have done. Not in our own prophecy, knowledge, service, or sacrifice. Those things can be operating and yet empty of His love - not empty of Christian sentiment, but empty of His love. The greatest of all gifts is love. We ask for wisdom, we ask for healings, we ask for provision, AND we need all those things, but we cannot move in those things without the greatest of gifts, God’s love.
